EWA to host First Day of Spring Hike on March 20th

FIRST DAY OF SPRING HIKE
MARCH 20, 2013
@ EWA’S TRIPLE C RANCH

The nonprofit Edison Wetlands Association (EWA) will host a public hike in the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area starting at their popular Triple C Ranch and Nature Center at 6 PM on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. This event is open to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and is great opportunity to experience a guided tour of the 1,250 acre natural oasis known as “The Diz.” Please meet at the farm located at 206 Tyler Road in Edison at 5:45 pm for check-in.

Leading the tour, Robert Spiegel, EWA’s Execeutive Director, will explore nature in twilight, as diurnal animals find rest and nocturnal animals start to emerge from slumber and start their nightly hunt for food. Animals such as great horned owls, beavers, red foxes, salamanders, and bats may be spotted.

Visitors must RSVP as space is limited. Please call out offices at 732-321-1300 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and total persons in your party. Visitors can bring cameras and/or binoculars, and should wear boots or shoes that may get wet or dirty. Please check EdisonWetlands.org or NJDismalSwamp.org for updates on the event or cancellation due to inclement weather. There is a $5 suggested donation per person.

The 1,250-acre Dismal Swamp Conservation Area is located in South Plainfield, Edison and Metuchen, and is home to an estimated 175 species of birds, 25 mammals, and 24 amphibian and reptile species including at least a dozen threatened and endangered species.
